Great book!
Although I am not a basketball fan as such, the story of a family’s fight to help their deaf son achieve his goals and to make friends resonated with me. We were the adoptive parents of a child from another culture, and suddenly we were confronted with having to cope with racial prejudice and had to work hard to provide a safe haven for him.
We are also on a journey as parents with deaf twin boys! It’s been full of disappointments, big decisions, amazing medical and educating professionals, loving people that are willing to walk beside us, a lot of sacrifice, and hard work in therapy but we can honestly say it’s all been worth it to see how far our boys have come in the past nine years with their cochlear implants and communication skills! We don’t know what their future holds but we are sure that being deaf will not be what holds them back from following and catching their dreams! Thanks for writing this book to give us all your parent perspective and encourage us. We’ve shared many parts of this story with our boys and as they understand the world around them more, I know they will continue to follow Christopher as a role model!
